POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
PTSD is the diagnosis for people who have suffered from trauma. Its symptoms include but are not limited to depression, anxiety/fear, anxiety attacks, flashbacks (repeating uncontrollable memories), hypervigilance, triggers, nightmares, overwhelming or unmanageable thoughts, repeating memories and emotions, isolation, anger/rage, guilt, avoidance, blocking out or numbing feelings, chronic physical/mental/emotional/spiritual pain and feelings, digestive problems, etc.
These symptoms can range from mild to severe. PTSD is caused by many kinds of trauma, from mild and severe—the more the trauma, the more intense the symptom. Trauma includes but is not limited to accidents, abuse -physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and sexual, war, abandonment, betrayal, etc. Trauma is experienced directly or witnessed, which is called secondary trauma.
We can heal from PTSD! It requires us to commit to doing whatever it takes to heal – hard work, time, and ethical techniques that are honest, healthy and help us heal and not add to our pain. Many in our world are not. Please be careful. Do research. Pray.
