Anxiety Understanding and Healing – Part 2
As I mentioned in my last post, l learned more about anxiety through my experience with a medication that was to help me. It is taking longer than I would like to recover totally. My body adjusted to the meditation and now has to readjust. In this post, I want to share the choices we have for anxiety, remembering anxiety is usually fear of the future.
What we can do with anxiety:
- Treat the condition causing the fear/anxiety – past or present trauma is a big one. Seek help and heal.
- Medicate it. There are a lot of different medications to treat and stop anxiety. Be aware that many are addictive, and if you have the addictive gene in your DNA handed down through the family, you don’t want to open that door. It may click that gene on. I am not a medical doctor; you must contact your doctor for information. If you choose to medicate it, still seek counseling help and heal.
- That said, our bodies have an excellent healing process. We can feel our feelings of anxiety and get them to release. Since fear is a protective feeling that tells us to run and get away when we are in danger, when we feel the feeling of fear/anxiety, we must tell ourselves to relax into the fear and then allow the feelings to be felt and not run away from them.
- Sometimes, fear sometimes acts like a stretched rubber band when released. Our bodies may move, shake, and make other moves to release the feelings. If your body does this, lay on the floor and let it move in, however it wants to release it. And you will feel better.
- Of course, the final thing we will mention today is changing what is in your life, causing fear. Get safe. If you are being hurt in any way, get help. Call someone for help – Adult protective services, Child protective services, police, trustable neighbors, place of faith, etc.
- Take control of the fear and make any changes you need to make. Control the fear, not letting the fear control you.
- Other things you can do include eating well, exercising, therapeutic massages, feeling all your feelings appropriately, etc. Stop any use of alcohol or drugs, including marijuana. Marijuana is causing lung disease and schizophrenia from its use. Alcohol increases the stress on our nerves and can cause anxiety.
- Pray and ask others to pray for you.
Fear, like all feelings, has a lot to teach us. Learn about you and your feelings. They teach and help us.
- What is your fear/anxiety teaching you about yourself?
- How will you apply what you have learned?
- If you are on medication and a high dosage, it may stop you from feeling the feelings so you can release it and heal.
