HEALING AND GROWING
When we heal, we also grow. Growing is the development and maturing of us as unique spiritual beings physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We develop and accomplish our unique, special divine purpose as we do.
To grow, we often have to go through challenges such as experiences of pain, trauma, grief, etc. These challenges allow us to mature, strengthen and gain much-needed wisdom for life. We must stay open to the growth they offer while working to survive the pain of these experiences.
We need to embrace the experience with all its wisdom and compassion it has to offer. Embracing it does not mean we wish the experiences on us or like it. It means because it has happened to us, we choose to grow and develop our maturity.
If we fight it and refuse its offerings, we can become bitter and angry and develop dysfunctional behaviors such as addictions, poor relationships, and abusive behaviors.
We have a choice. Bad things happen to us in life. How are we going to handle them? Run away? Hurt other people? Become angry and bitter? Learn from them? Gain compassion and maturity? If we choose the latter, we gain the golden nuggets of wisdom that help us through life.
- What awful thing has happened to you?
- How did you handle going through it?
- What did you learn from it?
- If you could do it over, what would you do differently?
